We are a small business that aims to contribute to the disclosure of the nature and history of Patagonia, Alaska and Polar regions.

Field Guides

A great travel companion

For over 17 years, we’ve been creating carefully designed field guides that serve as ideal companions for exploring some of the world’s most remote and awe-inspiring natural landscapes. Originally based in South Patagonia, our reach now extends across southern South America, Alaska, Antarctica, Arctic, Brazil, Iceland, and beyond.

Designed to fit in your pocket and enrich your journey, these guides help you discover the distinctive features that make each destination unique, whether it’s the windswept plains of Patagonia, the glaciers of Iceland, the Amazon rainforest, or the polar wilderness.

High-quality pictures for field identification of many of the species.
All of them are illustrated with their habitats and natural sizes, common names and scientific (Latin) names.

1% for the planet

Since 2012, 49 South Photo has donated 1% of its sales to local conservation and environmental local projects. 1% for the Planet is an alliance of companies that understand that it is necessary to protect the natural habitat because their gains or losses are directly related to its health and, at the same time, are aware of the social and environmental impact of their industries.
If you are the owner of a company (or have an appointment with your boss), please consider the possibility of becoming a member of this group with progressive social and environmental awareness.

Clean Seas

Currently, more than half of the 300 million tons of plastic produced annually goes to disposable goods. The third part of this is packaging material, discarded after a single use. The serious environmental consequences of this are well known. That’s why we have decided to join the global movement of stop using of single-use plastics.
Our field guides are not longer packaged in plastic sleeves.
With this small action, we hope to contribute and add to the awareness of this big global concern.
